About
Elizabeth Wasserman was born in Klersdorp, 1964. She grew up in Koppies, somewhere in the Free State, in South Africa. She is the author of the popular Dogtective and Anna Atom series, and Dingesfabriek, Kattemaai (published under the name Betsie Vos) and the “Elf dae” series of travel adventures for young adults, published in Afrikaans. “Die fantastiese mevrou Smit” is her first novel for adults. Her work achieved the MER-prize for illustrated children’s literature, an ATKV “Woordveertjie” and an award by the South African Academy for Science and Arts.
As a child she wanted to become a writer but decided it was best to first get some experiences to write about. She studied medicine at Free State University, and later specialized in Medical Microbiology at Stellenbosch University. She loves to learn and to teach and for some years she was the head of Medical Microbiology at Stellenbosch University before moving to private practice as a pathologist.
Elizabeth believes that one must develop a better understanding of science and nature in order to treat our ecosystem, and each other, with care and respect.
She is currently travelling while she continues to write.
